Biography

Born in Venice in 1976.

He graduated from the scientific high school in 1995. His encounter with the world of glass came while attending the Orsoni furnace and the Mosaic School in Spilimbergo, Friuli Venezia-Giulia, and training at the Berengo Fine Arts gallery in Venice from 1997 to 2001. From the age of 20 he worked in art galleries, where he was influenced by various artists. His passion for mosaic, which from that moment on became his favourite medium of expression, began when he discovered the works of mosaicist Dusciana Bravura in Venetian art galleries. His first works are framed mirrors, which gradually give way to real paintings and portraits of a high standard.
Creator, owner and founder of the Emanuele Sari art studio since 2002, where 7 to 20 collaborators work with the artist, depending on the projects.

Sari's favourite expressive medium for more than 15 years is contemporary mosaic, which he creates with glass, marble, resins, stones and various materials, using a technique defined as ‘direct’, which consists of directly gluing the tesserae onto the support, so that the final result is made more ‘alive’ by the reflection of light. To realise his works, he almost exclusively uses glass produced in Venice: Venetian enamels and gold leaf from the historic Orsoni furnace, murrine produced by Effetre in Murano and a few special pieces for nuances from Morassutti Mosaici in Spilimbergo. Over time, instead of using the ready-made tiles on the market, the artist began to model the components himself, giving his figures a new vibrancy.

This innovative technique gave rise to copies of paintings and portraits of comic book characters and celebrities: from Lupin to the Joker, from Klimt to Modigliani, from Jimi Hendrix to Freddie Mercury.
From 1997 to 2001, he participated in important exhibitions all over the world, including Miami Art fair, Stockolm Art fair, Ar.Co. Madrid, Wien Art fair, Paris Art fair and many others, in almost all European capitals. In spring 2004 he exhibited his works in a 1-week solo exhibition at the Palazzo delle Prigioni in S.Marco, Venice.
Since 2005, his works have been exhibited at the most prestigious art galleries in Venice (New Murano Gallery, Schiavon art team) and the world (Cris Contini Contemporary).
Notable collaborations include Warner Bros, Mediaset, Timothy Google (Ceo of Yahoo). Collectors include Rod Stewart, Arnon Milchan (Hollywood film producer and one of the world's biggest art collectors), Thomas Muster (1995 World Tennis Champion), gallerists and collectors from all over the world, especially from Dubay, Russia and the USA.
In 2016, he realised (thanks to the approval of Mediaset, which holds the rights in Italy) some mosaic works of the famous anime 'Lupin' with the supervision of 'Monkey Punch', the Japanese cartoonist of such characters, attracting the attention of the local and foreign press.
In 2017, the municipality of Venice acquired his work 'Corto Maltese' by placing it in the Forte Marghera in Venice.
Among the most recent major works is a mosaic portrait of Kevin Spacey, presented to the actor during the Nations Award 2024 film event; on the final evening of the prestigious film award in Venice, the artist was honoured and given the opportunity to exhibit seven works in the prestigious halls of the Hotel Ca' Sagredo.
Also from the same year, a splendid framed portrait of Dolce by Dolce and Gabbana, presented to the fashion designer during a special meeting organised at his atelier in Via Piave in Milan, and a 50x60 cm portrait of Sharon Stone in glass and fabric inspired by the photo of the American actress on the cover of his new book.
Also from 2024 is a mosaic commissioned by AC Milan paying homage to Silvio Berlusconi, the team's historic president; the work will soon be on permanent display at the Mondo del Milan museum in Milan. For Puma, on the other hand, Sari created a second mosaic with the logos of the team and the famous sports brand.
In anticipation, there is a possible future collaboration with Warner Bros. for the creation of some mosaics inspired by its iconic characters.
