CRISTIANO PETRUCCI | UNA SINGOLA MOLTITUDINE: IL SALOTTO DI MILANO
'it is research that leads me to observe the imperceptible, to reason from the individual to the multitude that we all are'
The London gallery Cris Contini Contemporary presents the solo exhibition of Roman artist Cristiano Petrucci from 10 to 24 May in the spaces of Il Salotto di Milano in Corso Venezia 7. The exhibition, titled ONE SINGLE MULTITUDE, is a set of ten works that explore the concept of deep interconnection that correlates all the material elements of the universe.
To express his vision, the artist starts from the geometric purity of a specific element: the ping-pong ball. This modular element allows Petrucci to show a world that can only be examined under a microscope: the simple ping-pong balls, carved and chiselled with maniacal attention, become imperceptible atoms of matter that, assembled together, give life to infinite combinations of harmonic forms. By aggregating the spheres with skilful colour variations, Petrucci gives the works an effect of continuous motion.
Davide Silvioli, contemporary art critic, commenting on Petrucci's creative process explains that ‘the author, questioning himself on the ancestral relationship between human and microcosm, creates works that, by aesthetic restitution, evoke bacterial colonies, cellular agglomerates, biological tissues and atomic aggregates, of which each element possesses its own unrepeatability. Just as his experimentation subtends the algebra that correlates the world's sets and subsets in the same biophysical pattern, the complex proportion by which we are ecosystems within other ecosystems, reminding us that we are a single multitude.’
Petrucci has undertaken a visionary challenge, contaminating art and science, interpretation and analysis. His 'generative' works arise from an emotional need, whereby the combination of maniacal study and the artistic world has allowed him to approach what for him are 'the mysteries of life'. ‘In fact,’ he reflects, ‘for my art it is not correct to speak of philosophy, but it is research that leads me to observe the imperceptible, to reason from the individual to the multitude that we all are.'
