Overview

“When I am making a sculpture in mesh and I witness the amorphous forms emerging in front of my eyes it sometimes feels as though I am stretching the fabric of the universe itself and creating a completely new space.”

AMOURPHUS

David Begbie

7th - 25th OCTOBER 2021

IL SALOTTO DI MILANO

The title of the new exhibition is a linguistic game that combines the term "amorphous" with the words "amour" and "us".
A triple synthesis that embraces three key concepts of the artist's poetics: the term Amorphous refers to Begbie's distinctive trait, whose study of human anatomy is often transfigured into silhouettes with fluid and intangible shapes. Amour and Us recall the relationships enclosed in these forms, the conjunction between masculine and feminine, a dimension of inclusive intimacy.

The extraordinary ability to work the wire mesh with hyper-real anatomical precision emerges in every work with plastic power. Starting from classical sculpture and its canons of beauty, Begbie manages to infuse his sculptures with an emotional nuance of unsettling contemporaneity.
The selection of works exhibited at Il Salotto di Milano includes a wide range of works ranging from human anatomy to abstract and figurative, an expression of an art capable of transporting even its most everyday subjects to a philosophical level.

 AMOURPHUS
