MUSICA : Michele Ardu
In his studio, in a still environment, isolated from unwanted air movements, Michele Ardu has been working on his collection of sound portraits for years. Cleverly surrounding a line of smoke that flows dense and linear in the air with speakers that play selected songs, the sound itself crosses this mouldable material column creating multiple shapes, which are portrayed in the works "Musica", in different times and ways.

MUSICA
Have you ever seen the shapes of sound?
Ardu’s Musica exhibition exposes the viewer to a completely new visual sound experience - by seeing it. The shapes of music are captured in this mesmerising sound portraits photographic exhibition.
The energy of the sound waves hits the smoke breaking its equilibrium and letting the sound creating its own shapes. To Michele Ardu, the flow of smoke is like the timeline of our lives. Any sound wave and notes hitting this stream of smoke can be seen as a person or an event crossing our life in a specific given moment.
Combination of factors affect the stream of smoke as well as life and the shape generated cannot be repeated, cannot ever be identical to any other, as created by sound lasts a single instant and will never be perfectly identical to the others. Just like the moments of our lives, sometimes they might look similar, but they are always new and different.
Ardu used songs by Pink Floyd, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Zucchero, Ludovico Einaudi to name a few, and creates a new perception of sound as a sculpted meanings, painted by the waves of sound. In his works, Michele Ardu expresses the mutable nature of life itself, with all of its factors and unpredictabilities, showing the impossibility to grasp any moment for longer than a just a second.
Like an untouchable statue, the smoke and the music always change shapes, intact the same way.
