This artwork derives from 18th century religious paintings, where icons of worship were often depicted within an archway as a central focus. Endless has modernised this tradition by portraying fashion icon, Cara Delevingne as an icon of ‘brand worship’ – playing with the idea that celebrities are the new God’s. The bible has been swapped out for Endless’ Chapel bottle, representing the modern shift in priorities and the worship of luxury. The collaged ‘Chapel’ text across the middle of the painting references typography tactics used within the advertising industry, which Endless often features throughout his work. Endless created this piece using a combination of free hand painting, hand-cut stencils with spray paint, digital design and collaged paper, finishing with a resin sealant.
