This piece was created by Endless as a part of his 2019 collaboration with Italian designer brand, Fiorucci. Fiorucci were one of the first brands to use celebrity endorsement to advertise their products in the eighties and since their recent relaunch, they have used the same method via the modern medium of social media. Endless has based these paintings on this concept, whilst channelling his own ‘brand worship’ ethos and consumerism ideologies. Endless has depicted supermodel Winnie Harlow holding the iconic Fiorucci lollypop, representing the classic Fiorucci imagery from their retro magazine in the eighties, Fanzine. Winnie Harlow is a fan of the brand and often mentions Fiorucci items she is wearing on her social media, which is why Endless chose to represent her in this piece. Endless has adorned Winnie in clothing worn by religious icons in classical paintings, commenting on celebrity and brand worship overtaking religious worship in modern times. The archway that surrounds her is also a nod to the way religious icons were often portrayed in classical paintings throughout history. The Fiorucci font has been painted in the colours of the Italian flag and the piece has been layered over Endless’ version of the classic Fiorucci angels. Endless has used detailed stencil work with spray paint, staying true to his street art origins, as well as hand painting to create this piece.
