Marginalia is the project by FABIO IMPERIALE, strongly supported by Cris Contini Contemporary and curated by Sandra Sanson.
Twenty women, one for each Italian region, entrust their testimonies to the artist, within the framework of as many artistic residencies. Plus one. Twenty-one female portraits for an unprecedented fresco of our country, touching on various aspects, from nature to family, from work to social issues, all the way to raising public awareness on topics such as women's self-determination, gender equality, and female empowerment, essential tools for promoting change.
Believing that art should interpret the surrounding reality and provide a vision capable of stimulating emotions and reflections, Fabio Imperiale spent several days in the homes of the protagonists, conversing with them and delving into their stories. From each residency emerged a portrait, painted with coffee, ink, and bitumen on a collage of old postcards composed by the artist in collaboration with his guest, and later mounted on board. Each artwork encapsulates an interweaving of lives: the world of the protagonist, the artist's sentiments, and the fragments of memory that surface from the vintage postcards, fostering a broader reflection on society, art, and human connection. Accompanying the painting are the artist's words, collected in a travel diary that has also become a podcast, narrated by the artist himself: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/sh....
