Cris Contini Contemporary Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition Under Skin (Sotto Pelle) by Renato Meneghetti in collaboration with Ristorante Frescobaldi London.
A exhibition that pays homage to the Old Master Painter Leonardo Da Vinci in occasion of the celebrations of 500 years of his death.
Renato Meneghetti revisits the finest works of the Italian Old Masters painters from the Renaissance period, such Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti unveiling what is “Under the Skin” of the subjects of their work.
The paintings selected for the exhibition at the Ristorante Frescobaldi London are part of a series in which Renato Meneghetti incorporates images extracted from X-Rays. The artist uses real model’s bodies, sometimes his own body, and projected the result images on the canvas, where he combines alcohol, resin and pigment to create those fascinating paintings. A series of distinct works emerged from Meneghetti’s X-Ray art experiment which includes a collection of paintings called “Grandi Maestri” in which the artist reinterprets and contextualise with a contemporary approach the works by the Italian Renaissance painter: The “Self-portrait” drawing by Leonardo Da Vinci”, the painting “San Giovanni Battista” by Leonardo Da Vinci and the iconic fresco painting “The Creation of Adam” which forms part of the Sistine Chapel's ceiling by Michelangelo Buonarroti.
