Art Stays compie 20 anni
Il 7 luglio 2022, Art Stays, Festival internazionale di Arti contemporanee di Ptuj celebra i vent’anni di un progetto unico in Slovenia. Attraverso un invito sempre nuovo i direttori, Jernej Forbici e Marika Vicari hanno aperto anno dopo anno ad un dialogo e viaggio con artisti, curatori, musicisti e galleristi, alle arti contemporanee ed internazionali.
La 20° edizione di Art Stays si intitola POST-PRODUZIONE ed ha due fili rossi tematici principali, che sono interconnessi. Il primo filone si concentra sui 20 anni di storia del festival, che nel corso degli anni ha attraversato temi molto diversi nell'arte contemporanea, dalle relazioni, alla politica, alla natura, alla fragilità della società e dei materiali, al suono e al silenzio, e lo scorso anno alla struttura.
Nella prima sezione, alla Galerija mesta Ptuj (Galleria comunale di Ptuj), presenteremo opere delle precedenti edizioni di Art Stays, perché vediamo l'anno dell'anniversario come un'opportunità e una responsabilità per analizzare il lavoro degli ultimi 20 anni e per delineare nuove direzioni per lo sviluppo del festival e dei suoi prodotti, verso la continuità e una sempre maggiore implementazione di Art Stays nell’ immagine della comunità locale e sue tradizioni, per mezzo di una "post-produzione".
La mostra Postproduction I, coinvolge artisti ed opere multidisciplinari più "iconici" che hanno segnato lo sviluppo del festival. Tra loro le installazioni, fotografie, quadri, video, documentazione di: Marko Batista, Lynn Book, Joseph Beuys, BridA, Nemanja Cvijanović, Maitha Demithan, Jarmila Džuppova, Dušan Fišer, Regina José Galindo, Interno3 (Manuel Frara), Jaša, Matthias Langer, Zul Mahmod, Robin Meier, Noriko Obara, Yoko Ono, Perino & Vele, Fernando Prats, Laszlo Laszlo Revesz, Kimitake Sato, Marek Schovanek, Santiago Sierra.Una selezione delle opere dell’attuale mostra è stata ospitata e presentata la scorsa primavera nella prestigioso museo Galerija Božidar Jakac a Kostanjevica na Krki.
Postproduction II, la mostra accolta nella fantastica storica cornice del Monastero Dominicano di Ptuj presenta le nuove poliedriche sculture ed installazioni di artisti già partecipanti e presenti alle passate edizioni del festival che hanno oggi sviluppato o completato i precedenti progetti. Tra gli artisti: Janet Bellotto, Leo Ferdinando Demetz, Johann Feilacher, Resi Girardello, Robert Jurak, Perino & Vele, Alex Pinna, Tomaž Plavec, Tobia Ravá, Olga Schigal, Andrea Tagliapietra, Alice Zanin, Gabrijel Berlič.
Nelle storiche sale barocche del Castello di Ptuj viene aperto un nuovo interessante dialogo intitolato POSTPRODUCTION III con le sculture figurative di affermati artisti italiani Michelangelo Galliani, Marika Ricchi e Valeria Vaccaro e dell’astrazione giapponese di Toru Hamada.
Un viaggio quello di Postproduction che ha, in ogni singola opera ed artista scelto, inizio in una delle passate edizioni ma che nel rinnovarsi e riproporsi nel presente, accetta la sfida importante di proiettarsi verso il futuro senza dover trascurare l'attenzione sempre viva verso lo spettatore, nel costante dialogo e ricerca di comporre nuovi tempi, spazi e percezioni.
Art Stays turns 20
On July 7, the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Art Stays Festival of Contemporary Art begins. It has been bringing to Ptuj since 2003, the best that Slovenian and foreign contemporary artists have to offer and has featured a number of promising young artists, as well as big names, such as Ai Weiwei, Yoko Ono, Monira Al Qadiri, Gilbert & George, Jake & Dinos Chapman, Edward Burtynsky, Robin Meier, Ivan Navarro, Allora & Calzadilla, Koen Vanmechelen, Hannah Collins, Ilona Nemeth, Jordi Alcaraz, Perino & Vele, Fernando Prats, Roberto Pugliese, Michele Spanghero, Tiffany Chung, Gigi Scaria, Regina Jose Galindo, Grace Weir and many others.
Every year, many artists, curators, musicians and gallerists respond to the invitation of the directors to dialogue and travel through a variety of current topics. Today, Art Stays is one of the most important presentations of contemporary, especially fine arts in Slovenia and in this part of Europe, and has become a reference event for many international galleries, museums, foundations and, of course, artists.
The 20th edition of Art Stays is entitled POST-PRODUCTION and has two main thematic threads, which are interconnected. The first strand focuses on the 20-year history of the festival, which over the years has traversed very different themes in contemporary art, from relationships, politics, nature, the fragility of society and materials, sound and silence, and last year, structure.
In the first section, at the Galerija mesta Ptuj (Ptuj City Gallery), we will present works from previous editions of Art Stays, because we see the anniversary year as an opportunity and a responsibility to analyse the work of the past 20 years and to outline new directions for the development of the festival and its products, towards continuity and an ever greater implementation of Art Stays in the image of the local community and its traditions, by means of "post-production".
The exhibition Postproduction I, involves also the most 'iconic' artists and multidisciplinary works that have marked the development of the festival. Among them are installations, photographs, paintings, videos, documentation by: Marko Batista, Lynn Book, Joseph Beuys, BridA, Nemanja Cvijanović, Maitha Demithan, Jarmila Džuppova, Dušan Fišer, Regina José Galindo, Interno3 (Manuel Frara), Jaša, Matthias Langer, Zul Mahmod, Robin Meier, Noriko Obara, Yoko Ono, Perino & Vele, Fernando Prats, Laszlo Laszlo Revesz, Kimitake Sato, Marek Schovanek and Santiago Sierra.
A selection of works from the current exhibition was hosted and presented last spring in the prestigious Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Galerija Božidar Jakac in Kostanjevica na Krki.
Postproduction II, the exhibition held in the fantastic historical setting of the Dominican Monastery in Ptuj, presents new multifaceted sculptures and installations by artists who have already participated and been present at past editions of the festival and who have now developed or completed previous projects. In the historic Baroque rooms of Ptuj Castle, an interesting new dialogue entitled POSTPRODUCTION III is opened with figurative sculptures by established Italian artists Michelangelo Galliani, Marika Ricchi and Valeria Vaccaro and the Japanese abstraction of Toru Hamada.
Post-production is a path that began for each work and selected artist in one of the past editions, and by being renewed and re-presented today, it accepts an important challenge. To look to the future, without neglecting the constant lively focus on the viewer, to remain in constant dialogue and to seek new challenges, spaces and feelings.
