HYBRIS | Profeti in patria – Cammini d’artista a Montecchio Emilia : Massimiliano Galliani e Michelangelo Galliani

In Montecchio Emilia (Re), from 6 November 2021 to 27 March 2022 the review "Prophets in the homeland - Artist's paths in Montecchio Emilia" returns, the sixth edition of which will be dedicated to the artists Massimiliano Galliani and Michelangelo Galliani.

Inaugurated in 2015 and supported in 2021 also by the contribution of the Emilia Romagna Region, the "Prophets in the Homeland" project was strongly supported by the Municipal Administration to allow citizens to get to know and get in touch with the artists who work in the area.
The exhibition, curated by the art critic Alberto Zanchetta, will develop inside the Medieval Castle and Casa Cavezzi, with a conspicuous selection of sculptures by Michelangelo Galliani and drawings, graphic and pictorial works by Massimiliano Galliani, who died prematurely in 2020. Some sculptures by Michelangelo Galliani will also be placed outdoors, in the symbolic places of Montecchio Emilia, thus creating a path that will connect the two exhibition sites.
The title of the exhibition - "Hybris" - alludes to the natural predisposition of each artist to exceptionality and excess, beyond the preconceived rules, without constraints.

"Maximilian - writes the art critic Alberto Zanchetta - relies mainly on the art of pencil. The serpentine line of the design is erratic but at the same time circular, destined to get lost and recover indefinitely; it happens in the waterways of the "Life" cycle and in the craquelures of "The Streets of Time" inspired by the masterpieces of Leonardo da Vinci and Rogier van der Weyden. Like few other artists of his generation, Massimiliano conceived drawing as a seismograph of thought; he did not just go along with the rit [m] or chiaroscuro of the sign, if anything he decided to alternate and intertwine the hatching so that the trompe-l'oeil technique corresponded to a savory metalinguistic game. Thus was born the series "drawing and pencil" in which the working tool helps to legitimize the subjects, while in the following cycle, "Through", the pencil bursts onto the scene, ideally perforating the paper support. Not otherwise, Michelangelo carries out an intimate reworking of the elements that crowd the gaze and memory, that is, he reactivates the aesthetic experience of the "fragment". His sculptures are aesthetic syntheses - heads, torsos, legs - which reach a truer evidence than truth, magnificent and terrifying at the same time. The manipulation of marble offers our gaze a metaphor / metamorphosis of nature and man that mixes with alchemical and cosmogonic references. Michelangelo evokes processes of transformation that lead to consider his sculptures as sublime [nal] bodies. Bodies that perhaps do not belong to this world, but to a modern mythology, or more probably to a new logic of the myth».

The inauguration of the "Prophets in the homeland" project and the "Hybris" exhibition will be held on Saturday 6 November at 5.00 pm at the headquarters of the Medieval Castle, in the presence of Michelangelo Galliani, the curator Alberto Zanchetta and the mayor of Montecchio Emilia Fausto Torelli. During the exhibition, further initiatives and meetings will be proposed, also dedicated to local schools.

A Montecchio Emilia (Re), dal 6 novembre 2021 al 27 marzo 2022 torna la rassegna “Profeti in patria – Cammini d’artista a Montecchio Emilia”, la cui sesta edizione sarà dedicata agli artisti Massimiliano Galliani e Michelangelo Galliani.

Inaugurato nel 2015 e sostenuto nel 2021 anche dal contributo della Regione Emilia Romagna, il progetto “Profeti in Patria” è stato fortemente voluto dall’Amministrazione Comunale per permettereai cittadini di conoscere ed entrare in contatto con gli artisti che operano nel territorio.

La mostra, curata dal critico d’arte Alberto Zanchetta, si svilupperà all’interno del Castello Medievale e di Casa Cavezzi, con una cospicua selezione di sculture di Michelangelo Galliani e di disegni, opere grafiche e pittoriche di Massimiliano Galliani, prematuramente scomparso nel 2020. Alcune sculture di Michelangelo Galliani saranno inoltre posizionate all’aperto, nei luoghisimbolo di Montecchio Emilia, creando così un percorso che collegherà le due sedi espositive.

Il titolo dell’esposizione – “Hybris” – allude alla naturale predisposizione di ogni artista all'eccezionalità e alla dismisura, oltre le regole precostituite, senza vincoli.

«Massimiliano – scrive il critico d’arte Alberto Zanchetta – si affida principalmente all’arte del lapis. La linea serpentina del disegno è erratica ma al contempo circolare, destinata a perdersi e a riprendersi all’infinito; accade nei percorsi d’acqua del ciclo “Vita” e nelle craquelure de “Le strade del tempo” ispirate ai capolavori di Leonardo da Vinci e Rogier van der Weyden. Come pochi altri artisti della sua generazione, Massimiliano ha concepito il disegno come un sismografo del pensiero; non si è limitato ad assecondare il rit[m]o chiaroscurale del segno, ha semmai deciso di avvicendare e avvinghiare il tratteggio affinché la tecnica del trompe-l’œil corrispondesse a un sapido gioco metalinguistico. Nasce così la serie “disegno E matita” in cui lo strumento di lavoro concorre a legittimare i soggetti, mentre nel ciclo successivo, “Attraverso”, il lapis irrompe sulla scena, perforando idealmente il supporto cartaceo. Non diversamente, Michelangelo compie un'intima rielaborazione degli elementi che affollano lo sguardo e la memoria, riattiva cioè l'esperienza estetica del “frammento”. Le sue sculture sono sintesi estetiche –teste, torsi, gambe – che raggiungono un’evidenza più vera del vero, magnifica e terrifica al contempo. La manipolazione del marmo offre al nostro sguardo una metafora/metamorfosi della natura e dell’uomoche si mescola a richiami alchemici e cosmogonici. Michelangelo evoca processi di trasformazione che inducono a considerare le proprie sculture come corpi sublimi[nali]. Corpi che forse non appartengono a questo mondo, bensì a una moderna mitologia, o più probabilmente a una nuova logica del mito».
